Charles Denson Pepper passed away on October 5, 2022. Charlie was the only child born to Grady and Norma Pepper on February 27, 1942 in Ashland, Alabama. He moved with his family to Childersburg, AL at a young age. He graduated high school in 1960. He enjoyed playing football and baseball for the school. He fell in love with his High School Sweetheart, Willi Ann Littleton, and they married on August 30, 1963. Charlie is survived by Willi, their daughter Michelle ("Shelli"), son-in-law Patrick Turner, and granddaughter Audrey.
Charlie graduated from the University of Alabama in 1964 and received his 2nd Lieutenant bars the same day. He began a long and distinguished career in the United States Air Force until he retired at the rank of Colonel in 1990. While in the Air Force, Charlie was able to realize his greatest passion outside of Willi, flying fighter jets. He served his Country during the Vietnam War with more than 200 combat missions flying the O2A. He was decorated with numerous medals and
awards relating to his service and flew the F-102 and F-106. He obtained his Masters Degree in Political Science from Auburn University in 1976. Charlie was a respected leader and known for his quick wit, sharp mind, and affable personality. He was a loyal friend and was quick to help whenever he learned someone was in need. He was a devoted son, father, and husband and left no debt unpaid. His word was his bond and his character strong. He knew the importance of family and he leaves behind a large legacy. His was a long goodbye and we pray that he has found the peace he so mercifully needed.
