Craig Eugene Yockey
1945 - 2020
Craig was born at home on the family farm on October 24th, 1945 to Archie and Lillian Yockey. He graduated from Central High School. He was drafted into the Army and served a year in Vietnam. One of his biggest disappointments was not being able to go on the Honor Flight which was canceled due to Covid-19.
He and his wife, Shirley, were married 51 years. They have one son, Stanley. His biggest love was racing. He built and worked on cars which raced at Kearney Bowl, Clovis Speedway, San Jose Speedway, and many other tracks. He was a member of the Legends of Kearney Bowl racing group and so enjoyed the camaraderie of the others who enjoyed the sport as much as he did.
He started his son racing quarter midgets at age seven. They moved on to racing micro sprints and sprint cars. He was very proud of Stan's success.
He was a retired plumber and a proud member of the Plumbers Union 246 for 55 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard. He is survived by his wife Shirley, son Stanley, brothers Doug, Russell, Ralph, and sister Stella. Grandson Ryan, and step grandson Austin Standley.
All attendees must wear a face mask and practice social distancing for the safety of all.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
