David (Dave) Hernandez was born in Visalia, CA on October 23, 1961, and passed away in Fresno, CA on February 1, 2022 surrounded by family.

He was an artistic, vivacious enthusiast of exploration who believed in the importance of family and conquering fears. As quiet as he was at times, those close to him knew he was a goofball with a silly, sometimes ridiculous, sense of humor. He was a lifelong, dedicated musician and taught others the ways of the master by giving drum lessons later in life. He also loved being outdoors. Whether camping, fishing, or hiking, Dave felt at home, and thoroughly enjoyed any opportunity to use the excessive amount of gear he stockpiled from REI.  And, of course, he documented everything throughout his life in the countless photographs he took.  Dave's passion for photography meant there was almost always a camera in his hands, often to the dismay of those around him.  He stressed the importance of family, hard work, and laughter, and those lessons will stay with those who knew him forever.

Dave was in the business of saving lives, having served as an EMT-Paramedic for 18 years, a Deputy Sheriff in Tulare County for 11 years, and a Police Officer in Dinuba for 9 years.  Although sometimes exasperating to his fellow officers, Dave's meticulous attention to detail, coupled with his self-discipline and want for order, helped him become a well-respected officer.  To his family, friends, and the communities he served, he was a hero.

Dave is preceded in death by his father, Julian, his brother, Andrew, and his mother, Mary. He is survived by his wife, Norma, his son, Chris and daughter-in-law, Carol, and his daughters, Kate and Alex, all of whom will be carrying on his legacy of silly faces, kindness, and love.
