Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David "Dave" Anthony Maynez, beloved husband, father, grandfather and teacher, who left us on September 3, 2025 at the age of 56 to be with his Heavenly Father. A man of deep faith, unwavering strength, and endless love, he was an anchor for his family and a friend to all who knew him.

David is survived by his mother, Virginia and his wife, Katrina; his children and their spouses, Victoria, Jacob, Jennifer, Anthony and Mariah; and his granddaughter Eliza. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur.

He was born in Fresno, CA on October 15, 1968 to Virginia Sanchez and Arthur Maynez. He graduated from Reedley High School in 1986 where he met his beautiful wife and love of his life, Katrina. They married on December 18, 1987 and share three amazing daughters. He retired from the Fresno Police Department in 2014 after nearly 20 years of service, doing a job he loved and then went on to share his passion as a criminology teacher at Yosemite High School and then at Washington Union High School - Law & Justice Institute.

David had countless accomplishments throughout his life, but his favorite was being a Papi to his granddaughter Eliza. His family, friends and students will forever carry the lessons and love he imparted upon them throughout their lives. He was known for his generosity, his sense of humor, and his ability to make everyone feel welcome. Whether lending a helping hand or offering a word of encouragement to a friend, he had a unique gift for making others feel seen and valued.

David's legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchild, extended family, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A celebration of life will be held at Peoples Church on Saturday, September 20, 2025 followed by a reception at Washington Union High School. In lieu of flowers.

May he rest in peace with his Heavenly Father.

The family asks that donations be made to a scholarship fund in his memory: https://gofund.me/61e86e9f5
