Obituary

David Eugene Smothers, age 75, passed away Tuesday February 9th, 2021 in Fresno CA. Dave was born on April 15th, 1945 in Sanger CA to the late Haskell and Louise Smothers, and graduated from McLane High School in 1963.   While living in Fresno and raising his two sons, Dave met his wife Mary in 1980.  It was then that Dave relocated to Kerman, California and married Mary in 1984 in Lake Tahoe.

In 1972, he began his 38-year career at Donaghy Sales, where he worked his way up from loading and delivering product to being a sales manager.  Dave, aka "Smo", had a strong work ethic, a great sense of humor, was quick witted, and built great relationships with his co-workers and customers.  Whether it was a supermarket, liquor store, or a restaurant everyone could tell you a funny story or two about Dave.

Dave knew no stranger, and to know him was to love him. Dave will be remembered as someone with a kind heart, who loved his family and friends deeply, and was generous to a fault. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend, but was best known for being an amazing Papa to Trent and Kendall.

Dave had a passion for fishing, deer hunting, barbequing, and boy did he love to watch the San Francisco Giants.  He loved the Giants so much, that trips to Arizona for spring training with Brian and Mariann were becoming a yearly event.   Annual trips to Clio and Pismo with friends and family was always a priority to him.  It was on those trips where he began to teach Trent and Kendall how to camp and fish.  From helping them string their lines, and reeling in a fish, to attending athletic events and awards assemblies, he was always there to support and encourage Trent and Kendall.

Being loved by so many, he will be greatly missed: Dave is survived by his son, David Smothers; son, Robert Smothers, his wife Christine; son, Paul Satragni Jr., his wife Tara; daughter Jessica Torigian, her husband Armen; honorary son, Roger Thompson, his wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Trent and Kendall Thompson and honorary grandson Jonah Fragus.  He is also survived by his brothers, Donald Burdan and Robert Smothers; sisters, Carolyn Steele and Laurene Solorie; and Uncle, Boyd Robinson.

A celebration of life to honor Daveid Eugene Smothers will be held at a later date.
