Elizabeth Anne
Farley
January 17, 1950 – February 9, 2024
.
Early on the morning of February 9, 2024, Betty passed away at her home in Fresno CA, peacefully of natural causes. Betty was 74 years old. Betty was born January 17th 1950 to Frank and Mary Terra. She instantly became the new baby sister. This made a total of six children, all girls, for Frank and Mary Terra.
As a young girl on the family ranch in Dublin California she spent her time being followed by her banty rooster which she adored. Beside her Banty, she had baby ducks, kittens and the particularly 'Spotty" the beloved family dog.
When Betty started school, under the escort of her loving older sister Marjorie she would hop in the family truck and be driven up the mile long lane to wait for the school bus which would take her to Murray Elementary School in Dublin. Eventually her family moved off the ranch and into Pleasanton California where she attended Amador Valley high school. She enjoyed making friends in high school during her young life. Shortly after high school she moved to San Jose and attended Heald Business College and soon became employed with Equifax.
During her time in San Jose she met her soon to be husband Duane Farley. Duane and Betty were married in The Garden at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga California on July 15th 1972. Betty and Duane had twin sons and purchased a house in the Santa Cruz Mountains, residing in the community of Redwood Estates. During this time with the twins and husband in tow, Betty embraced every opportunity to go on adventures in their chevy van covered in custom paint (ghost flames) and blue purple shag carpet. In this magic family van she would take countless trips to Moss Landing, Monterey, Northern California Redwood Forest, Santa Barbara, Gaviota Beach, Solvang, Universal Studios, Disney Land, and to countless beaches. Betty loved the beach and the ocean. In between these memorable trips she enjoyed visiting family and her sisters.
In 1989 Betty would survive the Loma Prieta Earthquake. In true form, Betty navigated her family through the devastating loss of their home. In a short matter of time and wanting a permanent place to live with good schools, Betty and Duane made the move to Fresno Ca.,1990. After diligently working on saving money, Duane and Betty purchased a new home. This was a big deal to Betty, as she worked with her loving husband Duane to provide a solid anchor, on a safe side of town with good schools for the family she cared so much about. If you knew Betty over the years you would realize she would sacrifice her own needs and wants in order to provide more opportunity for building memories of summer trips to the Central Coast beaches, exploring the Sierra National Forest, visiting places like Dinkey Creek and the old Dinkey Saw Mill with her loving family.
Over the years, Betty kept a tight circle of friends, mainly her sisters and brother in-laws. She would often talk about the loss of her second oldest sister, admiring her work ethic and funny side, she was heartbroken at a very young age when Helen passed away. Betty valued all her relationships with her sisters. Throughout the decades she would tell several interesting stories and some fun facts. Two of them that come to mind are the time one of her beloved sisters was bitten by a skunk and the story of her father Frank shooting a predatory bird out of the sky for killing some of his herd of sheep. Often you could catch her on the phone with one of her sisters with a 20 foot phone cord chasing her around the house as she chatted, vented or got the giggles. Over the decades she visited her sisters and family members in Missouri, Trona Ca, Santa Rosa Ca, Fremont Ca, Livermore Ca, Apple Valley and many more places. She enjoyed being an Aunt, Great Aunt and Great Great Aunt.
In recent years, just prior to and after retiring, as an Insurance broker, she focused on taking car trips, camping with the family trailer, traveling to a wide variety of places from Mount Rushmore to her favorite beach spots of Cayucos and Cambria. Often times taking her grandson Carson on these adventures or meeting up with her granddaughter Alonna to chat and walk on the beach, enjoying cookies from the infamous Butter Brown Cookie Company.
She also took trips to her families homeland of Portugal and the Azores Islands. Meeting distant relatives, eating the local cuisine, enjoying the drinks and fun times with her husband, sisters, brother-in-law and friends.
Betty was a committed wife and mother. Her candid view of the world was a benefit to those she spent time with. She will be missed, she was solid, trust worthy and loved those in her life in a special way. She would often send a card, gather up goodies and small gifts to be given to loved ones on every big or little holiday on the calendar. If she had taken a trip she would find a keep sake, local candies and other trinkets to be distributed upon her return to those she cared about. The passing of Betty has left a void in this world that can't be filled, she was one of a kind. Betty had a great sense of humor, was very loving and caring. It was hysterical when she got the giggles at the most inappropriate times, which often led to more laughter from her and the whole family.
She was married to Duane for nearly 52 years they shared the ups and downs of life, they always stuck to each other, focusing on doing the right thing and consistently was an example of perseverance that was unmatched. During the final months of her life, Duane stood by her side with a level of care and love that is uncommon. Betty showed love and appreciation to Duane, they had created many cherished memories as they spent life together, it was something very special.
Betty leaves behind her husband Duane Farley, twin sons Ryan and Eric, grandson Carson, granddaughter Alonna, step son Mike Flores, sisters Pat Gonzales and Marjorie Mederios, brother-in-law Laurence Kinney, along with many incredible nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded by her parents Frank and Mary Terra, sisters Helen Thompson, Marian DeShields, Delores (DD) Kinney, step daughter Sheri Farley, brothers-in-law Aaron (Tom) Thompson, Bill DeShields, Lawrence Gonzales and Elton Mederios. Plus with many loved nieces, cousins and family members.
The family would like to thank all of those who reached out in support of Betty's family and loved ones. They are humbled by the overwhelming response. A celebration of life will be planned for some time in Spring. In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to donate blood to your local bank. Please feel free to add pictures, thoughts and prayers.
