Eugene
Mora
January 11, 1950 – July 5, 2023
Born in Fresno, CA in 1950, Eugene "Joe" Mora was the example of what is possible with hard work, dedication and perseverance. As a young man, he was an accomplished gymnast and appeared on television doing tumbling routines. Even as a grandfather, he was still able to do flips into the pool to entertain his grandchildren.
Gene served his country as a highly decorated United States Marine completing two tours in Vietnam. Upon his return, he met and married Marilyn Lopez and had two children, Jacob and Gia. He enjoyed a long career with Pacific Telephone which eventually became a part of AT&T.
To many, Gene was a quiet and reserved man. To those who knew him best, he was generous, kind in spirit, and always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone–from family to a stranger on the street down on his luck. He understood the importance of compassion and encouraged his children and grandchildren to always offer support and assistance to those around them.
As a father, he always made time for playing catch, and regularly attended his kids' performances and sporting events. To his children's friends, he was like Superman, able to beat everyone in a foot race, make every shot, and catch any ball.
As a husband, he was dedicated to Marilyn. Over their 52-year marriage, despite the ups and downs every relationship endures, he remained by her side in sickness and in health. And she by his.
As a grandfather, Gene found the smile of his youth and loved nothing more than spending time with his grandkids. From taking Layne to Disneyland for the first time, flying to Arizona to see the new Dune movie with Cristiano or watching Morrigan sing in choir, he never missed a chance to spend time with each of them. It always made his day.
Gene was a man who led by example, represented excellence through service and deed and made sure his family knew every day that he loved them all.
Gene is survived by his wife, Marilyn, son, Jacob, daughter-in-law, Tracy and their children, Layne and Cristiano; daughter, Gia, her husband, Dave and their daughter, Morrigan.
Now that his time here is done, may he find peace and walk in the light of Christ.
