Obituary

Florence Greilich was born October 16, 1934 and went to her heavenly home on June 14, 2022. She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Philip and Ruth Rundlett and was little sister to Phil Rundlett.

She grew up in New England, moving to various towns and states following her father's jobs. As many Americans did, her family came to California in the 1950's. They settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. Florence would live in 4 different states and attend 15 schools before finishing her high school years at Sequoia High School, in Redwood City, California. From there she would attend Biola University and then San Francisco State. Florence had a beautiful soprano voice and sang in many choirs, including a choir at San Francisco State, where she would meet the man who would become her husband, Ron Greilich. After a short 6-month engagement they were married on August 18, 1955 at the First Covenant Church in San Francisco. After a brief honeymoon in the Lake Tahoe area, the newlyweds settled into their apartment in Berkeley.

In 1957, a daughter Rhonda was born to the young couple. In 1959, another daughter, Sheryl, would join the family. Then in 1964, a boy, Tim, made them a family of 5.

Since Ron was a pastor in the United Methodist Church, Florence also gained a new career as a pastor's wife. She would sing in the choir, help in Children's Ministry, lead women's Bible Studies, organized Vacation Bible Schools, and would be a gracious hostess for those who would come to have a meal at their home. She and Ron would live in various parts of California from the Redding area in the north, to Sanger in the south. No matter the parsonage they had, she would add her own personal touch to it to make it feel like home.

Florence would work at various jobs through her life. She worked for Colgate/Palmolive in Berkeley when she and Ron were first married. Once children came along, she would do things from home such as babysitting, and even ironing. As the children got older, she began working for an insurance company. She worked in insurance for over 15 years and took classes that earned her a Certified Professional Insurance Woman designation.

Because of her love of singing, she would be asked to sing solos and would often join a community chorus, if there was one available. She also enjoyed sewing, making Halloween costumes, doll clothes and clothes for her family (sometimes to the chagrin of her children). After retirement she took quilting classes and learned to quilt. She made quilts for all of her grandchildren, most of her great-grandchildren and many others.

Florence loved her family. Her great joy was to have everyone to her home for a holiday meal or a barbecue or dessert. She was Nana to her grandchildren and Nana2 to her great-grandchildren. She adored them and loved to share pictures or tell of their happenings to anyone who would listen. She had many friends and she liked to shop and grab a cup of coffee with them. She would never say no to having a cup of coffee, especially a Starbucks Vanilla Latte.

As a young child, Florence gave her heart to Jesus Christ. Her faith was very important to her. She loved to be involved in Bible Studies, where she could learn more about her Savior through the Word of God. She and Ron enjoyed reading the Bible each day with each other. They were diligent to make sure their children had the opportunity to know about Jesus and grow their own faith. One way they did that was their yearly attendance at Family Camp at Redwood Christian Park located in the Santa Cruz mountains. Many good memories and life changes took place at camp.

Florence is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Greilich, parents, Philip and Ruth Rundlett, brother Phil, and granddaughter Laura Pope. Florence is survived by daughter, Rhonda Pope, and husband, Reed, daughter, Sheryl Munoz and husband, Rene, and son, Tim Greilich and wife, Kelly. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Richard (Yvonne) Greilich and sister-in-law Marilyn Hamm.
