Obituary

Fred Ede III, known to many as Freddie, was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He passed away peacefully on March 9th, 2024 at age of 73. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and a lifetime of remarkable achievements.

Born on May 30th 1950, in Fresno California, Freddie was the son of Fred Ede Jr. and Bobbe Ede. His early years were marked by farming and traveling across the country racing. Beginning at the age of 5, Freddie raced the orange numbers 4 or 14 quarter midgets, all the way up to hard tops at the Kearney Bowl, San Jose, Madera and Clovis Speedways by the age of 18, winning multiple races along the way. He graduated from McLane High School, where he was a key player on the football and wrestling teams, and hit the ground running. He married the love of his life, Terry, whom he met at the San Jose Speedway, on January 22nd 1972. They celebrated over 50 years together which is a true testament of their love and dedication to one another.

Once retired from race car driving, he remained in the racing industry fielding Silver Crown Cars for Jeff Gordon and Ryan Newman. He never wavered from orange cars or the numbers 4 or 14. His son Chad continued this tradition while he raced and his granddaughter, Mariah now carries the torch with her orange, number 14 sprint car.

He went on to work alongside his father at M&L Plumbing and continued farming peaches, plums, citrus and grapes. While Tracy and Chad were young, weeknights were spent alternating from softball fields to baseball fields. The weekends were spent racing Quarter Midgets up and down California all the while managing Kings Speedway. As the kids entered their high school years the excitement continued. On Friday nights in the fall, you could find him supporting his son Chad at every Clovis High Football game. When he was not watching football, he was traveling the state supporting him at cattle shows. He and Terry continued to be huge supporters of his son's football career, feeding the lineman and any other players of Fresno City, then Fresno State, multiple nights a week at their home. Freddie was recognized for his unwavering commitment to his family. He had a zest for life that was infectious, and his enthusiasm touched the lives of everyone he encountered.

After retirement, he happily served on the Fresno County Planning Commission board and enjoyed traveling to multiple car shows with his wife and the Jokers Car Club. He "hammered down" a bit with the Legend's of Kearny Bowl and was thrilled being back in the driver's seat of a racecar. Freddie was a huge supporter of his granddaughter's, Mariah and Brystol's racing careers as well as, Preslye, Talyah and Kenlye's equine adventures, attending as many events as possible.

Freddie is survived by his loving wife, Terry Ede, his son and daughter in law, Chad and Cari Ede, and with immense pride, his five granddaughters, Preslye, Mariah, Talyah, Kenlye Ede and Brystol Kirby, as well as a host of friends and colleagues who will cherish his memory.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Bobb Ede, and his daughter, Tracy Kirby. He will be remembered for his perseverance, generosity, and the genuine connections he forged with others. A memorial service to celebrate Fred Ede III's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on April 4th, 2024 at New Hope Community Church. As we say goodbye to Freddie, let us remember him not with tears, but with gratitude for the joy he brought into our lives. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to

know and love him. May Freddie rest in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift us all.
