Gay was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Houston VanDeMark and Louise Ann (Petrus) VanDeMark. She is survived by her half-sister, Betty C. Umsted of Jurupa Valley, California, nephew Monte K. Umsted of Poway, California, nephew Clayton E. Umsted of Hesperia, California, and three great nieces and three great nephews, three aunts and one uncle. She held a variety of jobs throughout her life, including working for IBM in San Jose, as well as bookkeeping and retail work.
