In loving memory of Gilbert Martinez

Gilbert Eugene Martinez, 64, of Fresno, CA passed away surrounded by his loved ones on January 1, 2021.  Gilbert was born on November 2, 1956 to William and Rachel Martinez of Denver, CO.    In 1988, Gilbert met Sue, and they fell in love instantly and were lifelong partners for 33 years.

At the age of 18 Gilbert became a Marine.   After serving five years in the Military, he started working for Sprint in Corporate communications (before any of us knew cellphones existed).   He moved to Fresno in 1988 and became a cars salesman for Michael Chevrolet (he could sell you a car even if all you went in for was an oil change).   He had an immense passion for bowling. He was a professional bowler and instructor.  Let's not forget he owned Rodeo Lanes Pro shop better known as "You Got Balls"

Anyone who knew Gilbert knew that he loved cooking for his wife and family.  There was always something hot and ready on the stove no matter what time you showed up!  The family counted on his delicious turkey and stuffing ever year for Thanksgiving and his famous hot Chile Verde on Christmas Eve crowned with his famous chocolate cake.  No matter the dish he cooked it with love for everyone to enjoy!  He was an outstanding chef in the kitchen.

Gilbert was a fun and loving son, husband, father, uncle and brother-in-law.  Gilbert supported and encouraged us all and although he will be missed, he definitely left behind a lot of love and wisdom that will live inside of each and every one of us. He was one of kind, Gilbert's family and friends will miss him more than words can say.
