Obituary

Gordon Monte Clark was born at the Old St. Agnes Hospital in Fresno CA March 12, 1936 to parents Ruby Lee Cummings Clark and Herbert Maurice Clark. Gordon was a fun - loving, if not mischievous boy, some would say a quality which followed him into adulthood. He was a genuinely kind man, hard working and dedicated husband and loving, patient father. Gordon was a graduate of Fresno High School where he met and married his high school sweetheart. His first job was at the gas station nearby on Van Ness blvd, then with irrigation at the local golf course and followed in his father's footsteps at Buckner's Sprinkler. In 1957 he moved his new family of 3 to work for Goldthwaite Toro in Houston, Texas. He returned to Sacramento in 1960 to work for Ewing Irrigation soon became a family of 4 then 5...and developed the skills to operate his own business, returning to Fresno in the early 70s operating Irrigation Design & Consulting until starting 35 years as City of Fresno Parks Supervisor of Woodward, Roeding & Regional Parks as well as developing the water filtration for Camp Fresno. Gordon was instrumental in the creation of the Shin Zen Friendship Garden in Woodward Park and made 2 trips to Japan with the Fresno-Kochi Sister Cities Council.Gordon loved the mountains, camping, hunting & fishing. Gordon & Carolyn lived near Coarsegold CA for many years. He also dearly loved the Monterey Bay area as well as many years boating on the Stockton waterways, Sacramento River and San Francisco Bay area. Gordon passed away peacefully in his own home in Fresno the evening of July 3, 2022 and is survived by his wife of 66 years Grace Carolyn, daughters Terri Erskine & husband Mike, Kathy Clark, Alicia Clark & husband Erik Nelson, grandchildren Wendy Berry, Jeremy Ladd, Matthew Ladd, and great-grandchildren Morgan Cabral, Natasha Hillway & Isabel Berry and many nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents, brother Eddie Ray, sister Maureen Lee, and grandson Casey Berry. Remembrances may be made to Fresno Community Cancer Center, American Heart Association or Fresno Shin Zen Garden at Woodward Park.
