Jack J.
Bedoian
September 4, 1938 – April 23, 2024
Jacob "Jack" Bedoian, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and active member of his community passed away on April 11, 2024. Jack was born on September 4, 1938, the first son of George and Ruth Bedoian, and grew up alongside his brothers Richard and Steve on the family farm in Sanger, California.
During and following his graduation from Sanger High School, Jack worked on the family farm with his father and brothers and in packing houses with his mother. After graduation he attended Fresno City College. He also served six years in the Air National Guard.
Jack's journey led him to Mid State Showcase, where he honed his skills as a cabinet maker under the mentorship of his uncles, Albert and Harry Bedoian. Eventually he took over the business, showcasing his craftsmanship until his retirement. After which he worked for the company that moved into the shop. Even in his final retirement, Jack remained active working part time at Gottschalk's Department Store and farming.
Jack genuinely liked people. He treated everyone the same, with kindness and respect whether a celebrity or a homeless guy he would buy a hamburger for. He was deeply involved in various community organizations such as Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, The Tigers Club, and the Armenian Trex Fraternity. His commitment led him to serve as Grand Master of the Trex Fraternity of California in 2009-10, a role he cherished deeply.
In 1986, Jack married Alberta Melkonian with whom he shared a life filled with joy and adventure. They relished attending many activities together, such as sports events with his brothers, traveling with friends and family, attending cultural events like the opera and showcasing Jack's meticulously restored 1952 GMC truck at car shows. His license plate displayed the name Bedo, which his many life long friends called him.
Jack loved hosting parties. Friends and family looked forward to the couple's yearly hot dog parties, which were attended by over 100 people throughout the day and Christmas which was a two day celebration. Jack and Alberta spent many years working catering events and activities together at their churches, Holy Trinity Armenian Church and Saint Paul Armenian Church, as well as Fresno Trex. There was never a dull moment.
Jack's strength of character allowed him to face his medical battles without losing his amazing humor, positive attitude, kindness, love of family and friends, and his faith in God. Jack always asked about each of his grandchildren and great grandchildren and could tell you every detail of what was going on in their lives.
Jack is survived by his wife, Alberta, daughters, Jacqueline and husband Vince Balakian, Carolyn and husband Mike Malconian, Grandsons: Kyle, Craig, Chad, and Curtis Balakian and wives; Granddaughters: Jillian Balakian, and Mary, Clara, and Lydia Malconian and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Richard Bedoian, Steve Bedoian, and wife Denise, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the California Armenian Home for their loving care during Jack's final months.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, April 25 at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church with burial services at Masis Ararat Cemetery following Trex Fraternity services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Holy Trinity Armenian Church, Saint Paul Armenian Church, The California Armenian Home or the donor's favorite charity.
