Obituary

James Chesley Adams
1940 - 2022

"Jim" was born Feb. 16, 1940, in Oklahoma in his grandmother's front room, and at 3 years old the family moved to California. Jim passed away on July 25, 2022 at Clovis Community Hospital in Clovis Ca. at 82 years old, after fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia for 3 years.

He attended Winchell grammar school, Sequoia middle school and was a 1959 Roosevelt High School graduate. Jim and wife Jessica had also gone to kindergarten together at Winchell school. At age 12, he became a devoted and lifelong fan of the Dodgers. Never missing a game he lived and breathed Dodger Blue. Jim, with the rest of his family loved classic country music and would go to The Big Fresno Barn, a large family style dance hall. On Saturdays there was live country music, dancing and family fun. Women of all ages used to love to dance with him, he was a great dancer and belonged to dance clubs that visited other towns to enjoy country music and dancing with friends.

In 1968 Jim and his older brother Jack formed Adams Paving Co., a paving, excavating and grading company until their retirement in 2001. Their company did work for most of the Central Valley for 40 years.

He is a lifelong member of Loyal Order of Moose a fraternal organization, where he held Local and State positions. One State position he held required him to do a lot of traveling and meeting with members, he loved that because he never knew a stranger and loved meeting people and would visit with most everyone. He was also a member of Oceano Elks Lodge, Oceano Ca.

In 1958 he introduced his friends and Roosevelt High School classmates Jessica Metcalf to her future husband of 41 years, Phil Patton. After Phils death Jim and Jessica married and that has been for 22 years. After they retired, they moved to Arroyo Grande for 14 years to enjoy the weather and casual life at the beach with their Jeep and his little dog Dotsie. After a doctor shortage came, they moved back to Clovis to be by family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents Odus and Dorothy his Brothers Jerry and Jack and Sister Mildred. Survived by his Wife Jessica, Brother Gene, Sons Daren and David, Daughters Karen and Sharon, many grandchildren, all their families and a large extended family.
