Obituary

James David Hickcox, 80, of Fresno, CA, formerly of Lodi, CA, passed away on August 18, 2022, in Fresno, CA with his wife, Joy, and daughter Jami, by his side.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 4, at St. Anne's Church, with Father Brandon Ware officiating. Interment will follow in Monterey, CA at a later date. Arrangements are by Yost & Webb located in Fresno, CA.


Jim was born in Salinas, CA to George Lester Hickcox, Jr., and Mary Katherine Morris on November 21, 1941. He attended school in Spreckels, Castroville and Salinas, CA. Jim graduated from Salinas High School in 1959 and after graduation worked as media salesman for Gadsby's Music for 25 years. It was at the store he was introduced to Joy Waterman, immediately smitten, they were married on November 24, 1963, in San Jose, CA. In 1985 his career path changed after receiving his contractor's license in flooring installation. Jim moved to Lodi, CA, where he worked for Crest Carpet Company until moving to Fresno, CA in 2018. He continued to share his expertise and love of flooring sales at Robinson's Flooring until his death. Jim was a talented athlete playing baseball, softball, and golf, achieving six holes-in-one. He was very involved with the Knights of Columbus, O'Connor Chapter, at St. Anne's Church, having attained 4th Degree as well as serving Deputy Grand Knight. Jim and Joy loved to travel within the US but abroad as well. Many destinations were just the two of them or, accompanied by close friends, but it was the family trips they loved the most. He left a love of travel to his family.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, George, and Mary K. Jim is survived by wife of 58 years, Joy, of Fresno, CA, daughter Jami (Greg) Hickcox-Baker of Fresno, CA, son, John (Laura) Hickcox of Boise, ID, and adopted son Arthur (Jenny) Rodriguez of Las Vegas NV. He is also survived by grandchildren Brandy Hickcox, Cassi Baker, Grant Baker, Rebekah Rodriguez, and Victoria Rodriguez.
