Janet was born on June 29, 1938, in Fresno, California at the Burnet Sanitarium, now the site of Fresno Community Medical Center. She passed on to be with her heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at Clovis Community Medical Center. Janet was a lifelong resident of Fresno, a community she respected with great pride. Janet was President and Owner of Valley Lahvosh Baking Company, Inc., formerly known as Valley Bakery. Janet worked at the Bakery since the age of 12 and spent her life dedicated to running the business. Janet was the youngest child of Gazair and Hyganous Saghatelian. Her parents came to this country from Armenia in the early 1900's. Her father, Gazair, purchased property at M Street and Santa Clara in downtown Fresno and in 1920, started construction of his new bread bakery. In 1922, he began baking bread in his new business called California Baking Company. Janet grew up in the family home, which was next door to the bakery. Janet attended Emerson Elementary School, Long-Fellow Junior High, and was a 1956 graduate of Roosevelt High School. Janet loved and respected her church and the Fresno community very much. She received so much pleasure sharing her Lahvosh and Peda breads with others...no one ever left the bakery empty handed. Her generous and giving spirit will be missed by so many. Janet will always be known for her love of hearts. It was something she incorporated into her life and business. The family would like to express their gratitude to her doctor, Dr. Vasil Warvariv of California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, as well as the entire medical ICU staff at Clovis Community Medical Center. Special thanks also to all of her caregivers who took such good care of her throughout the years, Linda Clark, Rachel Gonzalez, Barbara Tillinghast, and especially Lisa Montgomery. And to Ann Arslan, her assistant and lifelong friend ... thank you, Ann, for always being there for Janet. The love and devotion you have all shown Janet will never be forgotten. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Gazair and Hyganous Saghatelian, and all of her siblings, Samuel, Sempot "Tommy", Satenig "Satt", Snar "Jimmy", and Sirak "Sid". Three infant siblings also passed before her, prior to her parents settling in Fresno, Haroutune, Gazair Jr., and Lusvart. Mom, I love you and will miss you forever. Janet is survived by her only daughter, Agnes; and her only granddaughter, Danielle Rose, who was the absolute pride and joy of Janet's life; nieces and nephews, Larry Lucinian and his wife Willie, and his children Jeffrey and Natalie, Joan Lucinian, Tommi Robin Saghatelian, and her children Brady and Kylie, James Gazair Saghatelian, Ryan Glenn Saghatelian; and many other dear relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Yost and Webb Funeral Home on Monday, August 30, 2010, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. Remembrances may be made to Holy Trinity Armenian Church.
