Obituary

Jasmin Sarah Mercado

February 18, 2002 – August 11, 2024

Jasmin Sarah Mercado entered this world five weeks early, on February 18, 2002, as if she couldn't wait to start living her vibrant life. Even as a shy child, her love for music revealed itself through the piano, where she shone during every concert, captivating audiences who adored her. Her voice, a gift she shared at Reyburn Middle School, Immanuel High School, and Clovis West High School, filled her home and car with melodies, spreading joy to those around her.

Jasmin was a beacon of love and kindness, always expressing her deep affection through words of affirmation and acts of service, showering those she encountered with her warm heart. Her sudden departure on August 11, 2024, came as unexpectedly as her arrival, leaving an indelible void. Yet, in her short time with us, Jasmin lived a full and meaningful life, dedicating herself to serving others as a proud member of the Army and a sworn Fresno Police Officer. The pride she felt in being called Officer Mercado was evident in every smile, and she never failed to show her appreciation, always arriving with a small token of gratitude for simply being included.

Jasmin's light continues to shine in the hearts of those she leaves behind: her devoted mother, Dr. Stephanie Harris Mercado; her father, John Mercado, Jr.; her loving stepmother, Josie Mercado; her cherished brother, Jonah Mercado; her grandmother Beatriz Mercado; her Godparents Eric and Yolanda Santos and Antonio "Tony" and Trish Route; her aunts Adela Ayala and Chelsea Flowe; and her dear friends, including Fresno Officers Montreal London, Isaak Lopez, Reese Booth, Berniece Torres, David Silva, Manuel "Manny" Bahena, Community Service Officer Summer Olivas, and Gabriel Bartra, who will carry her with love and honor as pallbearers.

In addition to these loved ones, Jasmin leaves behind her best, best friend Leslie Zepeda, her best friend Adamena Pichardo, and her self-proclaimed soulmate.

It is with heavy hearts that we mark Jasmin's end of watch. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy will continue through all of us. We will take it from here, carrying her spirit in our hearts as we continue the work she so passionately believed in.

Rest in peace, Officer Mercado. Your watch has ended, but your impact on this world will never fade.  As Jasmin would say

"BE BOLD, BE BEAUTIFUL, BE YOU!"
