Jimmie H
Gibson
April 30, 1945 – May 18, 2021
Jimmie "Jim" Holland Gibson passed away peacefully at Heritage Crossing in Clovis, CA on May 18 th , 2021.
Jim was born at home in Kerman, CA on April 30 th , 1945 to Howard and Estelle Gibson, the oldest son of seven children. He was a hard worker from a very early age, and as a young boy, helped his father run the family farm, and learned to plaster houses.
At the age of 17, Jim enlisted in the United States Army, and obtained his high-school diploma while overseas serving his country in Korea during the Vietnam War. After returning from the Service, Jim moved back to Kerman, where he worked at several different jobs, while doing plastering work on the side with his father. After a time, Jim realized that plastering offered him the best opportunity to provide for his family, so he began working for other contractors, with the goal of starting his own business. In 1977, Jim began his career as a plastering contractor, when he opened Jim Gibson Plastering.
Due to his hard work and ingenuity, Jim's business grew, and in 1988, he formed a new company, Tri-Valley Plastering, Inc., and moved his family and operations to Clovis, California. Jim named his company in honor of the Holy Trinity, and as always, he gave credit to God for his success. Jim had the idea of building a "dash rig", a self-contained machine designed to apply stucco, and he built several of these. Since plaster was traditionally applied to buildings by hand, Jim's dash rigs allowed him to work almost four times faster, while the finished product was far superior. In true "Jim Gibson style", Jim built many dash rigs and sold them to his competitors, many of which are still in service today. Jim's method of applying stucco has become used around California and is currently the preferred method of stucco application for residential buildings. Tri-Valley continues to grow while his children carry on his legacy of quality work, currently employing over 300 individuals, and now providing drywall and painting as well as stucco work.
Jim enjoyed working out, driving his 1923 Ford T Bucket, going to car shows, and watching car racing, boxing and MMA matches. Jim never met a stranger. He was generous and charitable. He donated his trade to the Saint Jude Dream Home for 17 years, and twice to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. He was always the life of the party, and he enjoyed laughing, and making people laugh. Jim was known for his loud shirts and flashy jewelry, which gained him the nickname "Diamond Jim". He was a celebrity at local restaurants, and even had a sushi roll named after him at Japanese Kitchen/Sakura Chaya, the "J&J Roll". He will be missed greatly here on Earth, but he leaves behind quite a legacy. He was truly "one in a million".
Jim is survived by his children Vincent Gibson, Heather (Nate) Oehlschlaeger and Marisa (Mike) Grubert; and his grandchildren Ashleigh Stidham, McKenna Georges, Hunter Oehlschlaeger, Hadley Oehlschlaeger, Madden Grubert; and great-grandchildren Hunter Stidham, Luis Huerta; as well as his siblings Rose Marie Bufkin, Frank Gibson, Leoma Martin, Ruth Teixeira, and Randy Gibson. He is preceded in death by his Mother and Father, and his sister Janie Flocchini.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 12 th 2021 at 10:00 AM at The Clovis Cemetery, 305 N. Villa Ave., Clovis CA 93612. Following the service there will be a "celebration of life" luncheon at Clovis Rodeo Hall, 758 Rodeo Dr., Clovis CA 93612.
