Obituary

On Tuesday, August 20, 2013, Joan Bosmajian Kevorkian departed from among us. Those who knew her best would like to share her story. On February 21, 1930, she was born in the Sanger area to Aurora and Aram Bosmajian. She attended Highland Elementary and Sanger High School where she participated in activities like cheer leading. From the beginning, she was close to her loving family. This was all the more so in that it took place in a rural setting. Unfortunately, while still a young girl, her family suffered following the tragic death of her father, who was struck as a motorist by a moving train. Prior to marriage, she was an office manager for a major commercial building contractor, the one who established the popular Fig Garden Village Shopping Center. Subsequently, she was married to Gerald Simonian and had a son of the same name. Following her husband's death, she served as office manager to Bedrosian Plumbing. During these years, she was active in the Armenian General Benevolence Union, her participation continuing more than ten years. Joan impressed her friends with her pleasant, cheerful view of life. We remember her devotion to raising her son, as a mother should. She cultivated friendships with her wit and humor. She was a generous, devoted and loyal friend. Among those of her generation, she is said to have known everyone. This certainly continued into the mini-climax of her career when she was hostess at the McDonald's on Chestnut and McKinley, where she touched the lives of people all over town. She did not advertise her spirituality, but those who knew her best were perfectly aware that she would spend about twenty minutes most mornings upon rising in prayer and Bible reading. We are witnesses and happy to share her life with you. Joan is survived by her husband, Roger Kevorkian; her son, Jerry Simonian; her brother, Haig Bosmajian and family; numerous cousins, and many more friends and well wishers. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Yost & Webb Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 30, 2013 at 10:30 am at St. Paul Armenian Church, followed by interment in Masis Ararat Cemetery.
