Obituary

John Wayne Otte of Oakhurst, California passed away on March 18, 2022 at the age of 81.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Otte, his mother, Emilie Otte, his brothers, Ralph, Walt, Willard, Ray, Fred and his sister, Mariann Fain (Otte).

He is survived by the love of his life, Brenda, whom they shared 57 years of marriage. He is also survived by his daughter, Karen Abbitt and her husband Jay of Thousand Oaks, son John Otte and his wife Jane of Simi Valley, and son Philip Otte and his wife Michelle of Rocklin. His grandchildren include Cassidy, Bradley, Charlotte, Luke, Ben, Emma and Madison.
John was born on March 21, 1940 in St. James, Minnesota where he helped work on the family farm during his childhood years. He was a military veteran who served our country in the United States Army as a MP in Korea.
He moved to California where he and Brenda started their family in southern California and established firm roots in Thousand Oaks. John was more than a successful business owner. He owned two Union 76 service stations; he served the people of the Conejo Valley with his laugh, charm and care for their vehicles and their families. "John's 76" on Moorpark Road was a staple near the freeway and golf course for over 30 years! John's second station was the "Conejo Valley 76" station on T.O. Blvd.
John and Brenda enjoyed square dancing and hosting holiday family get-togethers. John retired and moved to the hills of Coarsegold in Central California to enjoy the outdoors, riding his tractor and hitting the road with friends and family in his fifth wheel. He had a love of service and continued as a participating Elks Member at the local Elks Lodge where he enjoyed the fellowship of his brothers and sisters.
His devotion to God and the church was ever present. The Lord in His infinite wisdom and mercy took John to his eternal rest.
A Celebration of Life for John will be held Friday, April 1, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Oakhurst Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank everyone for their outpouring of Love and Kindness.
