John Allen
Shanoian
June 19, 1942 – April 17, 2024
John Allen Shanoian passed away peacefully with family by his side on April 17, 2024.
He was born on June 19, 1942 in Alameda, California to John Sr. And Servart Shanoian. In 1946, they moved to Fresno, California and he became a lifelong resident.
After graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1960, he immediately enlisted in the US Navy and served for two years. In 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Eva. Later that year, they welcomed a son and a few years after, they welcomed a daughter.
John received his Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Fresno State in 1967 and began working for Tulare County as a Deputy Probation Officer, later transferring to the Fresno County Probation Department. While employed by Fresno County, he also became a part time instructor for Fresno City College in 1974, teaching Introduction to the Criminal Justice System and Interviewing and Counseling. In 1976, he was offered and accepted a position with the American Justice Institute (AJI) in Sacramento to help establish a standardized training program for law enforcement, court, and correctional personnel. Later that year, he moved back to Fresno and took over the family business, Johnny's Muffler Service, upon his father's retirement. In 1987, he turned the muffler shop over to his son and founded Ride Motor Sales, which specialized in used Harley-Davidson motorcycles, new and used Harley parts and accessories; hot rods, and classic cars. He later sold the business in 2003 and retired.
John loved to travel, having gone all over the world. He and his wife counted London as one of their favorite places. They also traveled quite extensively together on his motorcycles. In 1988, he embarked on a 10,000 mile adventure on his Harley for seven weeks throughout the US and Eastern Canada.
John began attending yoga classes with his wife in 1988 and later became a yoga instructor in 2008. He taught many senior yoga classes around town, including George Brown Fitness Center and later at Clovis Senior Activity Center.
When he wasn't teaching yoga classes, he loved to ride his bicycle around town, visit the local libraries and bookstore, take day trips to Yosemite and the coast, and spend time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching automobile racing and playing Backgammon with friends and family.
John was a very humorous person who always kept a positive mindset. He brought a smile to everyone who knew him. His favorite sayings were "It's Beautiful" and "Life is Good".
John is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, who passed in April 2021. He is survived by his son, John Peter (Kimberly), daughter Erikka (Todd), and beloved grandchildren, Sophie and Drake.
A private celebration of John's life will be held at a later date.
"Your life was a blessing,
Your memory a treasure.
You are loved beyond words
And missed beyond measure".
