John Isaac
Weaver
April 15, 1930 – June 13, 2024
John Isaac Weaver was born on April 15, 1930 in McCrory, Arkansas to Herman and Bertha Eason Weaver. His humble beginnings shaped his resilient spirit and enduring legacy. When the dustbowl struck Arkansas, John's family migrated to California to work as migrant laborers, eventually settling in Brawley, California where he graduated from Brawley High.
Upon graduation, John joined the US Army. After completing his enlistment, he started attending Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, majoring in Architectural Engineering. As an Army Reservist, he was again recalled to active duty and served at Fort Ord. Through evening classes, working as a construction laborer and eventually a journeyman carpenter, he graduated from Cal Poly with a BS in Architectural Engineering in 1954. After becoming a licensed architect in California, he took and passed the Civil Engineer Exam to become a licensed CE in California.
While in the Army, he met Lee Ilah Viles at a USO dance. After a lengthy engagement, they married in 1952, a profound love and marriage that lasted almost 72 years.
During his career, he opened an Architect/Civil Engineering firm, served the County of Merced as Assistant Director of Public Works, County of Fresno as Chief Building Inspector and retired as the California State Architect for the California State University System. Post retirement, he worked out of his home on various architectural/engineering projects, enjoyed world travel with family and friends and was a loving and engaged husband, dad, granddad and great granddad to his family. He also was an active member of the Fresno Masonic Lodge #247, being honored in 2023 as the oldest living Past Master.
His legacy endures through his loving family: wife Lee Ilah, son Alan (Pegi), grandchildren Jake (Michelle Hinojosa) Weaver, Brittney (Mike) Boren, and great grandchildren, Mason & Kenzie Boren and a host of other family and friends.
A graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery in Fresno at 10 a.m. will be followed by a luncheon at Fresno Masonic Lodge on Shields Ave. Services by Yost & Webb. Donations may be made to a pet rescue of your choice or the Salvation Army.
