Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Sister, Grams, and Aunt, Kathy Ferguson.

Kathy was the youngest daughter of Charles and Leona Ferguson, joining sisters Jan and Sue. The tight-knit family spent weekends together at their Coarsegold ranch where Kathy enjoyed hunting and fishing with her cousins.

After graduating from McLane High School, Kathy studied nursing at Fresno City College and became a registered nurse. She earned her bachelor's degree from Pacific Christian College and a master's degree from University of San Francisco.

In 1972, she married Tim Etcheverry, and together they had a daughter, Samantha. Although the marriage didn't work out, Tim and Kathy always put Samantha first and remained friends.

Kathy met David Viancourt at Sierra Hospital and they were married in 1984. They had an amazing marriage and never wanted to be apart. They enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii, and the coast, especially to Carmel.

Kathy began her Kaiser Permanente career in 1986 as a sales executive. She eventually became the Area Director of Account Management before retiring in 2014.

Dave and Kathy loved raising Samantha and were thrilled when she married Curtis, but nothing compared to the joy they felt once they became grandparents. They loved to say that everyone else became "chopped liver" once Alex and Ryan were born and they continued to be their biggest fans, always cheering the loudest on the sidelines.

After Dave's death in 2017, The boys became Kathy's main priority for whatever they needed. She was the person they called for advice, gas money, or just to talk.

Kathy beat breast cancer in 2014, and in her style, wore a different pair of high heels to all of her chemo treatments. In 2018, her sister, Sue, was a perfect match for the life-saving bone marrow transplant Kathy needed. Kathy strutted the halls of Stanford decked out in her favorite SF Giants gear and proved again how tough she was.

We are so grateful Kathy spent her final years doing what she loved – cheering on the boys at soccer and football, fostering puppies, bowling, playing bunco, volunteering with political campaigns, and traveling with friends and family.

Kathy is survived by her daughter and her husband, Samantha and Curtis Schuh, and her cherished grandsons Alex and Ryan Schuh. She is also survived by her sister and her husband, Sue and Larry Muenster, of Coarsegold. Additionally, Kathy is survived by her beloved dogs, Joey, Phoebe, Hope, and Rocky.
