Obituary

Kathryn (Kay) Joan Reed Good was born February 1, 1936, in Missoula, Montana to parents William James and Thora Fern Slade Reed and big brother Arthur (Art) Milne Reed. The family lived in the Northwest for much of her early childhood. They moved to Colorado to be near relatives during the war as her father was stationed in England with the Army Air Corps. After the war they traveled to Okinawa while he was involved in the rebuilding process.

Coming back stateside, they settled in San Francisco where she finished school. She became very involved with the Civil Air Patrol while in high school, gaining leadership experience and being honored for her work.

Kay went back to Fort Collins, Colorado, to attend college at Colorado State. She joined Pi Beta Phi sorority and graduated with a degree in Education. She started her family while in Colorado, then the family moved to Bakersfield, and to Fresno in 1964. She became a single mother, went back to school, and began her teaching career at Reed Clegg Adult School and Roosevelt High.

Jack and Kay met in 1966, although they both attended and graduated from Colorado State the same year. After two years, they married and the family moved up the valley, then back to Fresno. Kay taught at Hamilton Junior High, then Hoover, Fresno, and Bullard High Schools. She earned her master's degree in Education from the University of San Francisco, owned a business, and she was involved in Kiwanis. She became a member of PEO in 1988 and served in many offices with both Chapters TT and GZ.

Kay and Jack began to travel internationally in the mid-1970s. They travelled by air, land, and sea all over the globe and they set foot on 6 of the 7 continents.

She was on the Supervisory Committee and Board of Directors at the Educational Employees Credit Union for a number of years.

They moved to Coarsegold in 1999 to their mountain top dream home and became involved in the Coarsegold Historical Society. 2018 brought them back to the valley floor, and in December 2021 they moved to the San Joaquin Gardens. They became involved in many aspects of life at the Gardens, enjoying their time there and reconnecting with many friends from throughout the years.

Kay was a devoted wife, mother, stepmother, teacher, and leader who leaves a legacy of seeking adventure and beauty in every situation.

A memorial service at University Presbyterian Church, 1776 E. Roberts, will be held Saturday, October 29 at 11 AM.
