KENNETH COLBURN GARRETSON

Kenneth passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022, in Fresno, CA at the age of 97. He was born in Tulare, CA May 14, 1925.  He is survived by his companion, Rosa Gonzales; his four children, Michael C. Garretson of Bakersfield; Galen C. Garretson of Grants Pass Oregon; Cindy L Garretson and Jeanne' S. Garretson, both of Fresno.  He is also survived by daughter in-laws, Lisa M. Garretson and Sandy L. Garretson; son in-law, Alex R. Merzoian, and his grandchildren; Jordan D. Garretson, Michele L. Shadle, Amber M. Gaetano, Russell and Max Merzoian, and Mimi Merzoian. He also leaves three great grandchildren, Mila J. Garretson, Liam A. Gaetano, and McKenna M. DeCora.

Kenneth obtained the rank of Lt. Colonel and served in the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Army Reserves and the U.S. Army.  He was above all else a patriot, serving heroically in combat positions in WWll, the Korean conflict, and as an advisor in Vietnam. He was awarded three Purple Hearts and the Silver Star among many other awards. In the latter portion of his career, he served as a Counterintelligence Officer.  He retired to farming, raising grapes primarily, which he did in Fresno County until his death.
