Fortune, Jr.
April 14, 1944 – February 6, 2025
Lewis W. Fortune, Jr., age 80, passed away on February 6, 2025 surrounded by family. He was born in Fresno, spent a few years as a child in Clovis, then residing back in Fresno for the rest of his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59years, Dorothy Fortune; son Michael Fortune and his wife Heidi; daughter Christina Rouff; his younger sister, Shannan McCollum; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Lew is preceded in death by his parents Lewis Sr. and Barbara Fortune and older sister Barbara Leeds.
He graduated from McLane High School in Fresno in 1962 where he excelled in the sport of pole vaulting. A sport he carried on to college before injuring his back.
Lew owned and operated Valley Small Appliance for 32 years before going to work for Gottschalks Dept. Store as lighting specialist, traveling to many of the west coast stores. His final job was as a facilities director for Woodward Park Baptist Church.
In addition to spending many hours watching his grandchildren play in various sports, he loved fishing, golf, and racing his "Bug-eye" sprite in autocrosses. Lew also became a docent at Fresno Chaffee Zoo where he and Dorothy spent many hours participating in various activities.
Lew loved his family and friends and will be truly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made in his name to Woodward Park Baptist Church, the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, or your favorite charity.
