Obituary

Linda Glaude, beloved mother, sister, local artist and educator, peacefully passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024 at Community Regional Hospital in Fresno, California, following a brief, heroic battle with Cancer. Linda was born on March 23, 1958 in Fresno to the blessed union of Illinois Glaude and Mabel Lee Owens-Glaude. She lived with her parents, four brothers, Dennis, Mitchell, John, and Steven and three sisters, Patsy, Janet, and Claudette in the Central Valley.

Linda received her early education at St. Alphonsus Catholic School and later graduated from San Joaquin Memorial High School where she developed her love for teaching and art. She attended California State University, Fresno receiving her BA in Visual Arts. While attending college, she was a chairperson of the Pan Afrikan Union, joined Kuumba Arts, and worked and performed at Good Company Players. She also co-created an Afro-centric group called Constant Movement with her dear friend Francine Oputa.

After graduating from college, Linda met and married Ricky Asbury. She gave birth to their only child, Malinda in 1985. After the dissolution of her marriage, Linda furthered her education to receive her multiple subjects and single subject teaching credential from California State University, Fresno. She became an educator for Fresno Unified School District and taught elementary level for 27 years until she retired in 2015. Following retirement, she continued teaching art part-time.

Linda loved the arts and belonged to various choirs, performing companies, and teaching associations. She continuously represented her school in art, science, and union meetings. She was a faith member and sang in the choir at Family Community Church and sang with the Gospel Music Workshop of America. She truly enjoyed praising the Lord any chance she got and was a blessing to others as she sang joyfully. Her favorite song was My Help Cometh from the Lord.

Linda always made time for the people and things that meant a lot to her. She always made sure to be available for friends and family, even if it was to just sit quietly with them during difficult periods. She cared about her students and made sure they all had the tools to succeed inside and outside of the classroom.

Linda never failed to show how much she loved her daughter and always attended and provided support to Malinda in all of the activities in which she was involved in.

Linda's presence in this world will truly be missed by all of her family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter Malinda Asbury, her brothers Mitchell and John Glaude, sisters Patsy and Janet Glaude, an uncle Arthur Owens of Los Angeles, California, an aunt Mary Robinson of Bakersfield, California, as well as a host of nieces, cousins, and close friends.

A special thank you to those who had a hand in helping and taking care of Linda, during her illness and to Nancy Idlet-Whittle for being with her and her daughter in her final hours.

Viewing will be held at Yost & Webb Funeral Home 1002 T. Street Fresno, CA on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.

I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore. – Psalms 121:1-8
