Martin "Marty"
Kaloostian
June 10, 1961 – June 9, 2024
Martin "Marty" Albert Kaloostian was born on June 10, 1961 in Fresno, California. He was the youngest of three children born to George and Jackie Kaloostian. When MaryAlice, Marty's older sister, was born, the family was elated. The family was delighted when Linda arrived two years later, but when Marty was born — the family sounded trumpets…finally a son! There's no question that as the youngest child and only boy in an Armenian family, Marty had a special status. That's not such a surprise. What is remarkable is that despite the attention and favor he received within his family, he was always well-grounded, humble, and respectful – characteristics he carried throughout his life. This is so because he had the great blessing of the nurturing guidance, grounding, and discipline offered by loving sisters, parents, immigrant grandparents, and great grandparents.
Marty grew up in a multi-generational home on the family farm in the Lone Star area of Fresno. Marty loved the farm life and living just two houses away from his Poochigian cousins who were more like brothers. The families spent much time together, not only celebrating special occasions and achievements but simply enjoying each others' company. Marty cherished his family.
Marty attended Lone Star Grammar School and later Sanger High School where he played football and participated in Track & Field events, winning ribbons for discus throw. During these years, Marty developed friendships that he carried into adulthood.
Marty assisted on the family farm - but we can't say he liked it. The labor was hard but also brought him a sense of pride. One such task was helping his father plant a 20-acre vineyard by hand. Whenever he spoke of the young vines, Marty would always say, "There was a lot of sweat put into planting that vineyard - sure can't bear to pull them out." Marty also worked alongside his father and Uncle Robert to build a large farm shed. This huge job first required the team to tear down the family's old barn. When constructing the new shed, Marty's father George directed Marty & Uncle Robert as they nailed the strips of corrugated metal. All seemed to be going well until Marty's father noticed the strips were cockeyed and Marty & Uncle Robert had to pull out the nails & fix that section. The team was very proud of this structure, which still stands today.
Throughout his life, Marty loved being outdoors. From a young age he enjoyed fishing, whether it was a day trip or longer. A trip of a lifetime for Marty, his father, and Uncles Pierre & Robert was an Alaskan fishing adventure Marty coordinated. They thoroughly enjoyed the trip and delighted in sharing stories long after. Marty also loved water sports, skiing, mountain biking, and hiking.
Marty attended Fresno State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He later received a Master of Business Administration from Santa Clara University.
Marty held a number of entrepreneurial positions over the course of his career in the field of science and technology. During his long and distinguished career in the analytical chemistry industry, he served in senior roles at a number of leading companies including Varian, Agilent, and as CEO and President of Quantum Analytics before joining ePrep. Marty was appointed as the new President of ePrep USA in February 2023. He was thrilled to join the ePrep family and brought a wealth of scientific and business experience. Marty was well-respected throughout the industry. He was known for his unbendable integrity, modest demeanor, irrepressible charm, and quick wit.
All who had the privilege of knowing Marty were keenly aware that he reflected a rare level of kindness, humility, caring, and deep sense of spirituality. He treasured the love of his family and wonderful, lifelong relationships he forged with close friends from his youth.
Anyone who met Marty quickly realized that he was very humble, never boastful, and did not covet attention or praise. Yet such fine human characteristics should not be misinterpreted. Clearly, Marty was very bright, focused, and ambitious. While savoring time with Dena and Meagan, he also wanted to fulfill great professional goals and make a difference in the world.
Marty was preceded in death by his loving parents George and Jackie Kaloostian. His beloved sister, MaryAlice. His paternal grandparents Mardiros & Mariam Kaloostian. Maternal grandparents Garabed & Alice Garabedian. Paternal great-grandparents Hampartzoom & Aghavnie Dolabjian.
Marty is survived by his wife, Dena, and daughter, Meagan, who loved and adored him. His loving, devoted sister Linda. His Uncle Pierre and Aunt Sheila Garabedian. Their sons Steven, his partner Kristin, and family. Brian, his wife Letty, and family. Uncle Robert and Aunt Sue Garabedian. Their daughter Alison and son Keith and his wife Kelly. Dearly loved cousins in California, New York, and France.
