Mary Elizabeth George
1948-2021
Mary Elizabeth George passed away on Monday November 8, 2021. Mary was born on September 17, 1948 in Fresno, CA to Joseph and Helen George. Mary is the youngest of four daughters and is survived by her sisters Patsy Holt, Helen and her husband Marshal Torigian, and Priscilla Wilson. Mary has three children; Charmaine George, Terra and her husband Michael Martin and Brandon and his wife Jaime Champ; her grandchildren Alex and his wife Ashley Bjork, Rebecca and her husband John Bailey, Geoffrey Martin; and Emma Champ. Mary was very close with her niece Lisa Wilson. She is preceded in death by her late husband Gary George and beloved dog Bruce. Mary leaves behind her first husband and companion, David Champ. Mary's family was her proudest accomplishment and she loved them completely.
Mary was a lifelong educator. She began her career as a teacher's aide at Roosevelt High School and then returned to college to earn her teaching credential. She worked for a couple of school districts, but taught the majority or her teaching career at Edison High School where she eventually retired. Teaching was what she loved doing and continued doing as a substitute teacher into her retirement for both Fresno and Madera Unified School Districts until the pandemic shutdown.
Mary lived a colorful life. She lived on her own terms and took the bumps and rewards of living life like that. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren. Everyone that knows Mary has a Mary George story and no two stories are alike. There will never be another person like her. She will be eternally missed.
