Obituary

Muriel Claire Wohlers

12/27/1932 – 06/04/2026

Muriel was born in Oakland, CA to Edgar and Janet Sturgeon. As the youngest of four children, she grew up with her two sisters, Constance and Eleanor and her brother Edgar. After she graduated from Oakland Technical High School, she worked for a couple of years and during that time, she met Merlyn Wohlers. They were married on May 1, 1954. They lived with Muriel’s parents for about 2 years, and in early 1956 they moved to Fresno, CA for Mert’s job. They started in a rental and in 1958 they moved to the new home that she lived in until she required an assisted living facility in late 2024. Muriel was always devoted to her family. In these early years she was a full-time housewife and was always involved in our school as a room mother or helping wherever she was needed. As we grew up, our house was most often the gathering place for all our friends. When Muriel and Mert divorced in 1971, she went back to work and had several short-term jobs while she started training to do data entry. She was hired by the City of Fresno, and by the time she retired she had worked her way up to Computer Operator. After Muriel retired, she remained active and available to all her family and friends. In time, she and Mert reconciled their differences, and became companions. They enjoyed taking drives and we would all go to dinner together. She would also go back east to Minnesota and loved staying with family when Mert went back to visit until his death in August of 2010. Muriel continued to enjoy dinners out with her family and holiday gatherings with her friends until her health began to fail in 2024 and she entered into assisted living. As always, she was a special favorite with the staff until the day she passed away. Muriel is survived by her two children Karen French/Bob, Paul Wohlers/Fran, her two step children Ingrid Davies/Jason, Heidi Schultz/Shawn, her grandchildren Skyla Henson/Logan, Alex Schultz, Katarina Davies, Khristyan Davies, and her great-grandchildren Lilliana Henson and Malachi Henson. She will be greatly missed but her memory will be with us always.
