Obituary

Patricia "Pattie" Louise Beattie was born on October 27, 1931, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Helen and Hap Beattie. She was the oldest of six children.

After graduating from Central High School, she attended the University of Tulsa for one year. While she was there, she competed in the Miss Tulsa pageant. She subsequently transferred to Atlanta Christian College, to which Dean Rutherford transferred the following year.

Although Pattie had attended Dean's father's church her entire life, it was not until the fall of 1952 when Pattie and Dean began dating. They were married in Atlanta on January 25, 1953.

They ministered first in Grundy, Virgina, where their first daughter, Dreama, was born. They moved back to Tulsa, Oklahoma to help Dean's father, Jim, at his church, Cincinnati Ave. Christian Church. Their second and third children, Debbie and Dudley, were born in Tulsa.

They then moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1958, where they served at Woodlawn Christian Church for over 20 years. The church grew greatly in numbers, and many additions were built. Eventually, a new facility was built at a different location, and the name of the church was changed to Countryside Christian Church. Pattie and Dean had two more children, Dean and David.

Pattie and Dean served churches later in Tampa, Florida and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, before moving to Fresno, California in 1995. They served on staff there, with their youngest son, David, at Northside Christian Church, now CrossCity Christian Church.

Pattie was the epitome of a "preacher's wife," supporting her husband in all his endeavors and raising their children in the "way of the Lord," with all of them entering the ministry as well.

She was completely devoted to the Lord's Church. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and folded bulletins, as well as attended at least two services, Sunday school, and two to three Bible Studies every week.

Pattie formed life-long friendships wherever she went. She was known for her kindness and sweetness, and always speaking encouraging words. She was continually busy working with her hands, quilting, painting, playing the piano, crafting and knitting. Her final days were spent knitting baby blankets for the church ministry.

Pattie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, H. Dean Rutherford. She was also preceded by her parents, Helen and Hap Beattie; her brother, Lucky Beattie; her sisters, Diana Richie and Lucy Pennington; and by her precious grandson, Taylor Dean Ayers.

She is survived by her children, Dreama (Curt) Ayers of Naples, Florida; Debbie (Tom) Trotter of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Dudley (Rene) Rutherford of Porter Ranch, California; Dean (Bernie) Rutherford of Safford, Arizona; and David (Suanne) Rutherford of Clovis, California. She is also survived by her twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren, with number twenty coming soon!

Pattie is also survived by her sisters, Cindy (Ken) Dasher of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Andy (Don) Madison of Henderson, Nevada; brother-in-law Shan (Karen) Rutherford of Greenwood, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. Last but not least, she leaves behind her ever-present companion, her cat, Sheba.
