Obituary

Queenie Emerzian was born in Fresno, California on September 25, 1932 and passed on April 2, 2022 at the age of 89 years old. She was the first child of Mihran (Mike) Karagozian, survivor of the Armenian Genocide, and Mae Alexander, native of Fresno, California.

Queenie graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1951 and attended Fresno City College. After working at several jobs, including the 144 th Fighter Group with the Air National Guard, she eventually was employed for 27 years with the Fresno Unified School District running the job placement and Career Center at Roosevelt High School. She truly enjoyed her job and all the students, fellow teachers and staff at Roosevelt.

In the late 1950's she joined her husband John Emerzian for 2 years in Dachau, Germany, where he was stationed, along with her first born, 3 month old son, John Harry. Queenie considered this particular experience as an amazing and wonderful journey in her life. Her father, Mihran, left his raisin vineyard to her and her sister Betty. Queenie continued running the ranch for 16 years, a true farmer's daughter. She was a member of the St. Paul Armenian Church along with the Ladies Society. Her three sons, Dr. John, Michael and Thomas would bar-b-que for the annual Palm Sunday luncheons, a fundraiser for the church for 24 years that was chaired by their "Mom". It was a fun time for everyone. Queenie was also a member of The Armenian Home Guild and enjoyed "Bunco" with many of her close friends. She was also a very proud grandmother, attending most all of the sports activities that the grandchildren were involved in.

She was a very proud "Mom" to sons Dr. John H. Emerzian, daughter in-law Janine, grandchildren Kelsie and Cole Emerzian; Son Michael Ray, daughter in-law Judy, grandchildren Andre, Alec and Ava Emerzian.; Son Thomas Paul Emerzian, daughter in-law Gail, grandchildren Nolte and Amariece Emerzian. Queenie is survived by sister Betty and her husband Edward Smith, Nephew Mikeal and Niece Helena Smith-Walsh, all of Reno Nevada. Queenie had a unique love for life that was notably marked by her Love for God, Family, Friends and Country.
