Raymond H
Holmes
November 8, 1950 – July 16, 2025
Raymond H. Holmes, a man who lived life to its absolute fullest, has taken his last Harley ride. Born November 8, 1950 and raised in Fresno, California. Raymond graduated from Hoover High School in 1969. While formal education was one thing, Ray's practical lessons started early. He taught his little sister Tanya to box so she could hold her own, and later, how to master the art of the sideways slide in their Mom's El Camino- right out the driveway!
Ray's love story began at 16, when a blind date introduced him to Patti, a McLane High girl who would become his lifelong partner and wife on October 24, 1970. For dates, he'd famously pick Patti up at her family home in his 1955 Chevy and Panel Truck, complete with a mattress in the back for prime viewing at the Sunnyside drive-in movies- certainly every fathers worst nightmare! Their early days were filled with adventure, including Ray's legendary "Raisin Jack" (A homemade alcohol concoction) that mostly ended up with Grandpa Chet, but Tanya managed to snag some.
After high school, Ray answered the call of duty, serving in the Air Force as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist from 1970 to 1974. Stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas. He not only kept jets flying but also discovered his lifelong passion for motorcycles. From a humble Honda dirt bike, he escalated to a Norton, a triumph he famously chopped, and finally a Pan Head Harley Davidson that he lovingly brought back to California.
After leaving the service, Ray and Patti settled in Madera, CA, where they built a home together that would be their cherished haven for the rest of his life. Their house quickly became a hub for family and friends, always open for gatherings, laughter, and good times. Ray, together with Patti, was a regular on the motorcycle run circuit, making his mark at events like Laughlin River Run, the Bridge Port California Jamboree, Rumble to the summit HOG runs, and Make-A-Wish runs.
When he wasn't on two wheels, Ray could be found spending time with The Breakfast Group, a monthly meet up sharing laughs and stories with close friends and family. He was also a devoted dog dad, and his beloved Boo was his constant companion, accompanying him on countless errands, include every trip to Tractor Supply Store.
In 1991, Ray channeled his mechanical prowess into his own business, Deutz Doctor Sales and Service, becoming the go-to guy for all thing Deutz. Beyond his professional work, Ray was a true craftsman, always tinkering and creating, He was a master of woodworking, a skilled welder, and could fabricate just about anything he set his mind to. And let's not forget Ray's Chili, a culinary masterpiece that started in Texas, and perfected over the years- the star of the annual "Pork of July" BBQ.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Patti Holmes and his sister, Tanya Buckridge. He is also remembered by his late sisters' children, Lisa and Brent Rendino.
Ray lived life on his own terms, with a twinkle in his eye anf a knack for making every moment an adventure. He'll be deeply missed, and his stories, laughter and a bit of his trademark mischievousness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
