Raymond
Torres
August 28, 1950 – March 26, 2025
On behalf of the Torres family, we share with heavy hearts the passing of Retired Sergeant Raymond Frank Torres of the California Army National Guard. Affectionately known as "Ray" by family and friends, he passed away peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in Fresno, CA, surrounded by his beloved wife and family. He was 74 years old. Ray is now reunited with his parents, Frank Raymond and Dolores "Lola" Torres. He was also preceded in death by his revered uncle Charlie and his wife Arlene Chavez.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Ray leaves behind a legacy of love and service. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 20 years, Lupe Torres; his children Miranda and her husband Rene Martinez, Marisa Gamboa, Daniele Torres, and Richard and his wife Michelle Torres; and his grandchildren: Albert Tello, Sonia and her husband Roman Gonzales, and Anthony Gamboa; Aaron and his wife Monica Castillo, Adam Castillo, Ryan Martinez, Eric and his wife Eliana Martinez, Jacob Martinez and Jessica Jimenez; and Richard Torres, Jr. He was also blessed with several great-grandchildren who brought him much joy: Roe Ramos, River Corado, Rome and Rumi Gonzales; Caleb and Andrew Martinez; and Jace and Joele Martinez. Ray is also survived by his sisters, Elaine and her husband Frank Villegas, and Cindy and her husband Joe Padilla; his uncle Mike and his wife Jenny Torres; and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Ray proudly served in the California Army National Guard's 2668th Transportation Company, forging deep bonds with his fellow soldiers. In 1990, he was called to active duty for Operation Desert Storm in Kuwait during the Gulf War. After 23 years of honorable service, Ray retired from the National Guard in 2004. The family is especially grateful to his fellow veterans who maintained contact and who recently visited and prayed over him in his final hours.
Following his military career, Ray worked for Alpine Water in Fresno, CA, where he became known for his friendly nature and ability to connect with people. He cherished the daily interactions his job brought and formed lasting friendships with many along his route.
Ray's passions included spending quality time with his wife Lupe, bonding with his dear friend and fellow veteran Sam Estrada, reading the print edition of The Fresno Bee, listening to the music of The Rolling Stones, and cooking made-from-scratch breakfasts for veterans and their families at the VFW Post 5057. His children and grandchildren fondly recall the memories of hiking, fishing, camping, theme park visits, and enjoying homemade meals with "Grandpa '68."
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers who supported Ray over the past years, and especially to his hospice nurses, Leti and Jeff, for their compassionate and attentive care.
