Obituary

Richard Warren Teater
1942 - 2021

Richard Warren Teater passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Los Angeles, California (but considers Iowa his home) on June 8, 1942, to Walter and Helen (Selby) Teater.

He married his high school sweetheart Karen Jean (Jones) Teater on December 30, 1962 in Corydon, Iowa. Together they were married for 58 years and were blessed with two children, Jeffrey and Jennifer Teater.

Warren served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and after 20 years of honorable service retired. After retiring from the Navy Warren worked for the Department of Forestry for 5 years, and then spent 10 years as a Corrections Officer before finally retiring for good.

Warren had a great love for the Lord, was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending his mornings outside eating breakfast with Karen watching the squirrels and birds play.

Warren was the person you called when you needed something built, and was always coming up with ideas to make things better for other people. He loved traveling with Karen, taking their trailer on yearly trips in August to Iowa, stopping along the way to visit family, friends, and favorite landmarks. They would also attend their high school reunion to catch up with lifelong friends. Then in January they would take their trailer to Arizona to get out of the cold and fog, where they would meet up with other snowbirds and enjoy telling stories over the campfire.

He is survived by his soulmate, Karen, their son, Jeffrey and Cleo, their daughter, Jennifer and Dennis, and his five grandchildren: Ashley, Joshua, Meghan and Chandler, Samuel, and Kevin. He is also survived by his sister Nancy and her husband Larry, and his brother Donald. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Warren lived a fulfilling life as a husband, father, and grandfather. Warren will be greatly missed by his family who loved him and whom he loved so much!
