Obituary

Roland Glen Ewert
October 20, 1931 – September 1, 2024

Roland Glen Ewert, known as Glen, was born on October 20, 1931, to Bernard and Susan Ewert in Hepburn, Saskatchewan.  Glen and his twin brother, Earl, began their elementary education in a one-room schoolhouse with one teacher teaching all 12 grade levels.  They also were surprised to learn that the primary language was English which was a challenge at first since they were raised in a German speaking community in Saskatchewan.

In 1942 Glen and his family moved to Vancouver B.C. where their dad found stable employment in the construction business.  In Vancouver Glen completed his elementary education and secondary education.  Glen was involved in athletics and competed on many teams.  In high school Glen participated in bicycle racing on a Velodrome racetrack.  In 1950 at the age of 18, Glen won the Canadian National Championship in Quebec, in the mile race.  He was aspiring to qualify for the Canadian Olympic Team for Track Cycling when injuries derailed that opportunity.

Now, out of Olympic contention, Glen moved to California and enrolled in Pacific Bible Institute now known as Fresno Pacific University.  Glen went on to complete his education at Fresno State University with a secondary Teaching Credential.  Glen was a high school teacher at Roosevelt High where he taught Government and Economics.  His true passion was being an after-school coach.  He was the head coach for wrestling and golf and assistant coach for football and track.  He so enjoyed mentoring many of his students.

Glen accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age.  He had a heart for the Lord and was involved in many activities past and present to further His cause.  He was involved in the Gideons, Church planting, Bible Studies, West Coast Mennonite Male Chorus, church choir and many committees.

At Fresno Pacific University, Glen met his future wife Frances Regier and they were married in 1957.  They had just celebrated 67 years of marriage.  They were blessed with two children, Denise Ewert of San Luis Obispo, CA, and Darren Ewert who passed away at the age of 20 in a tragic accident.  They both attended North Fresno Church where they were active.  In 1992 they both retired.  They took advantage of many travel opportunities which remain treasured precious memories.

In 2019 Glen and Fran moved to Palm Village Retirement Community.
Glen became involved in the life at Palm Village.  He was on various committees, he continued riding his racing bike 20 miles several times a week, he occasionally hit the golf course and socialized with many of their friends who also moved to Palm Village.   He was a very active 92-year-old!!!

Fran had been battling Alzheimer's Disease and lost her battle on July 27, 2024. Glen was struggling with melanoma cancer and was not doing well with the immunotherapy.  On September 1, 2024, Glen joined Fran in their heavenly journey.

Glen is preceded in death by his loving wife, Fran Ewert, son Darren Ewert, his parents, Bernard and Susan Ewert, his sisters Grace and Bev Roscoe and his brother, Earl.  He is survived by his daughter Denise Ewert, Earl's children Connie Mullen, Dorothy Maxwell, and Fred Ewert, Bev's son Tye Heinrichs, Fran's sister Audrey Sager, and her children Brad Thiesen and Kim Hernandez, Earl's wife Julia, and a host of other family and friends.  He will be dearly missed.  He was a great man of honor, pride and distinction.

II Timothy 4:7-8

I have fought the good fight,
I have finished the race,
I have kept the faith.
Now there is in store for me
The crown of righteousness,
Which the Lord, the Righteous
Judge, will award to me on
The day-and not only to me,
But to all who have longed for
His appearing.
