Wesley Slade's earthly life began January 31, 1925, in Porter, Oklahoma with his now deceased parents, Isaac and Tempy Slade. His eternal life began, October 4, 2015, in Fresno, California. Wesley was the sixth child of twelve siblings. In 1936, the family moved to Fresno, California, where he attended Lincoln Elementary School, Edison High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and Political Science, from California State University of Fresno. He also attended the Golden Gate College where he majored in Public Speaking and University of California's Hastings Law School where he pursued a Law Degree. Wesley served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946. After receiving an honorable discharge, he later moved to San Francisco, CA, where he met and married Pauline James, in 1952. To this union, three children were born. He was baptized at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church of Fresno under the pastorate of Rev. L. C. Garrett when he was in his teens. In 1995 he became a charter member of Family Community Church, under the pastorate of Rev. Chester McGensy and served as Chairman of the Deacons Ministry until his health waned and he was given the title of Deacon Emeritus. Wesley's employment career included many positions such as Restaurant Manager, Recreation Manager, Bus Operator, Field Social Worker, Human Services Director, and Redevelopment Relocation Officer for the City of San Francisco. One of his proudest moments was when he was employed as Special Assistant to San Francisco's Mayor Joseph Alioto. Wesley loved sports and was a star athlete in High School and College - excelling in football, basketball and track. He was heavily involved in many civic and community organizations such as the Metropolitan Gold Club, Toastmasters International, Merced Heights Neighborhood Association, Westborough Homeowners Association, San Francisco Planning and Urban Renewal Association, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, NAACP, Edison Tigers Club, and Vocational Educational Steering Committee. Wesley leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife: Pauline Slade; son: Keith (Sara) Slade; grandsons: Jareth and Devon Slade of Escondido, CA; son: Gary (Kathy) Slade; granddaughter: Therese Slade; great-grandson: Aiden of Tracy, CA; grandson: Gary Jr. of Los Angeles, CA; daughter: Paula (Stephone) Paige of Fresno; CA; grandson: Stephone II of Los Angeles; grandson: lon Paige of Fresno, CA; granddaughter: Brieon of Washington DC, sisters: Vera Fields of Fresno, CA and Evelyn Wyindon of Los Angeles, CA; brothers: Isaac Slade of Sacramento, CA; Dr. Marvin (Vernistine) Slade of Vallejo, CA; Earman Slade of Los Angeles, CA; and Dr. Joseph (Elizabeth) Slade of Sacramento, CA; niece: Martha (Cleve) Jones of Fresno, CA; many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and loved ones.
