Obituary

Darryl D. Rogers, aged 84, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 11 at his home in Friant, California. He was born May 28, 1934 to Alys Wyman Rogers and Bud Arthur Rogers in Los Angeles, California. Darryl was a graduate of Jordan High School in Long Beach, and earned his B.A. and Masters from Fresno State College in Physical Education while he was a student athlete football player. After graduation Darryl was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams and the Denver broncos but instead served his country in the United States Marine Corps where played football for the Marine Corps Football team, the Leather Necks. Rogers married his wife of 60 years, Marsha in 1958. Rogers had a fulfilling career in athletics first as an assistant football coach of Fresno City College, and then the head coach at Cal State Hayward, his alma mater Fresno State College, San Jose State University, Michigan State University, Arizona State University, the Detroit Lions, the Winnepeg Blue Bombers and concluded his career in athletics as the AD at Southern Connecticut State University. His surviving family takes comfort in knowing that Darryl touched the lives of so many during a truly extraordinary life as a father, friend, and coach. The celebration of Darryl's achievements on and off the field as a steadfast advocate for student athletes, athletes, and to members of the communities that he served will be held Thursday, July 19th at 11am at Trinity Community Church in Clovis and is open to the public. Darryl is survived by his wife Marsha and their two daughters, Stacy Dawson (Brian, Samantha, Shane) and Jamie Collard (Jon, Garret, Maecie, Adie, Tori).  In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes or Links Golf Fellowship.
