Henry Shamlin was born to Paul and Fereday Shamlian in Fresno, California on October 3, 1910. He passed away on Friday, July 22, 2011, at the age of 100 years. Henry graduated from Fresno Technical High School in 1929. He married Rose Arkelian on, July 4, 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during World War II from 1943 through 1945 and saw action in Tarawa. He was a retired painter. Henry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a funny sense of humor that would catch you by surprise. Playing golf and card games were his favorite pastimes. Henry was preceded in death by his wife Rose; brother George; brother-inlaw Zaven; sister-in-law Joy; and his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Dianne Kassabian and her husband Carl; son, George Shamlin and his wife Connie; grandchildren, Christine Gregory and her husband John, Curtis Shamlin and his wife Kristin, and Gregory Kassabian and his wife Sara; and great grandchildren, Nicholas and Kayla Shamlin, Talia Kassabian and Joshua Gregory. He is also survived by his sister, Mae Laborde who is 102 years of age; brother-in-law, Dr. Edward Arkelian and his wife Lynn; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at Yost and Webb Funeral Home, at 1002 T St. in Fresno, on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to the Pilgrim Armenian Congregational Church, 3673 North First St., Fresno, Ca. 93726.
